Fly Fishing Excursions
With two rivers in town (the Colorado and the Roaring Fork) and Colorado’s longest stretch of Gold Medal water, Glenwood Springs is nationally recognized as a fishing mecca. Area waters are home to many trout species including: brookies, browns, cutthroats, and rainbow trout. Whether you are here for a day or staying for the summer, find a pair of waders and get on out there to explore nature. The Rio Grande trail offers 44 miles of riverfront access with multiple locations for wading or shore fishing.
Whitewater Activity Area
Glenwood Springs is home to the first whitewater activity area built anywhere on the Colorado River. Depending on the time of year, river flows can range from 4,000 to 22,000 cubic feet per second. One of the area’s main features is called a standing wave, or “G-wave”. There is also a hole at river left, a smaller standing wave at river right and learning pools for practicing skills. At high water levels, the feature blends to form one very wide wave. Paddlers may use the area at their own risk. Helmets and personal floatation devices are required.
