Glenwood Station History
The station opened over 100 years ago on June 18th, 1904. The building is made of Frying Pan River red sandstone in a style similar to the Hot Springs Lodge. The Denver & Rio Grande railroad built the station as part of its “Scenic Line of the World” which featured the beauty of Glenwood Canyon. Amtrak began service in 1983 and Glenwood Springs is the 2nd busiest Amtrak station in Colorado (out of 9.)
Glenwood Railroad Museum
The Glenwood Railroad Museum is located in the historic Glenwood Springs Railroad Station. The station was built in 1904 and the museum was added in 2003 in the Ladies’ Waiting Room. The museum features a large scale model railroad with Rio Grande steam and diesel-powered trains. Also, see historic and regional railroad pictures, memorabilia and a gift shop.
Will never stay anywhere else in Glenwood again! I wish we had stayed at the Best Western Antlers on earlier visits as it is the nicest hotel in the area. We'll be back!
