In Family Activities, What To Do

The Glenwood Springs Amtrak Train Station will be 110 years old this June! The Amtrak Train Station, called The Depot, was officially opened on June 18, 1904.

The original company to run trains through Glenwood Springs and Glenwood Canyon, the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, called the route the “Scenic Line of the World”, partially because of the spectacular beauty of the Glenwood Canyon. Today there is one eastbound and one westbound train on the famous California Zephyr line — which goes from Chicago to San Francisco. The train is a stylish and fun way to get to either Denver or Salt Lake City from Glenwood Springs.

As the train travels through the canyons in this area, you will understand why designers put windows in the top of the dome car. You must look up through the glass ceiling to see the tops of the canyon walls! Local Tip: get into the observation car as you head East out of Glenwood to enjoy the next 15 miles of Canyon.

The Glenwood Railroad Museum, which opened in September 2003, is also housed in the Station. It is open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11am to 3pm.
